Botanical

I'm still so very fascinated by all the shapes and details of wild herbs and plants and tried to make a few more things with botanical imprints.

It's getting harder to find suitable leaves and grasses as summer fades and they dry and wither. Also in many places these beauties are mowed down. (It's such a sad sight.) Apart from the pot and buttons in the photo above I also made another wall panel I'll show at a later stage. I couldn't take a proper picture of it.

This sponge vessel is another thing I made. I nicked the idea from bptakoma on Flickr and just had to give it a try! It takes some time and patience (and for me some pain in the wrists) to cover a pinch pot with a surface like this.

hey wow -- so excited you're making spongiforms too. It's a little addictive -- and good to do with the TV on. I don't find it hurts my wrist so much, but I do it while the clay is soft. I got the idea from Angela Cunningham, who was generous with sharing the technique when I talked to her at the Smithsomian craft show this year. Can't wait to see more.
Cheers,

Thank you very much, Beth!
I'm so glad you like it! It surely is addictive. Texturing surfaces always makes me feel a bit obsessive and I definitely would like to try out more with this technique. It's great that Angela Cunnigham shared the idea! (I had to look up who she is and now I'm in awe of her art!) I'm always grateful for tricks and tips like this.
I also worked on the pot while the clay was still soft but my wrists are very unstable. That's why I moan so much in this blog. ;o)

Uau, I really like that cup. It reminds me about a flower, which I've taken a photo not so long ago in the snow. Sorry I can't attach it, but it looks the same. Interesting.
